The most expensive cities near Atlanta to buy a home (2026)
Where the median home for sale costs the most right now, ranked from live listings.
Live figures from active listings, updated October 8, 2026.
These are the cities where the middle home on the market carries the highest asking price today. High medians usually reflect some mix of larger homes, larger lots, proximity to job centers, and school systems buyers compete for.
A high median doesn't mean every home is out of reach. Most of these cities also have townhomes, older homes and smaller lots well below the median — the ranking describes the middle of the market, not its entry point.

How this list is built
Ranked by the median asking price of active homes for sale in each city, highest first. Covers houses, townhomes and condos (land and lots excluded) in the cities we serve, among cities with at least 60 homes listed. Recomputed daily; for the largest cities the figure comes from a sample of up to 1,000 active listings.
Buying at the top of the market
- Know your loan type. Prices in these cities can run past the conforming loan limit set each year by federal regulators, which means a jumbo loan with its own down payment and reserve requirements. Ask your lender where the line is this year.
- Price per square foot matters more than price. Two homes at the same price can be very different value. Compare the best-value cities by price per square foot.
- Expect competition on the best homes. Read how to win a multiple-offer situation before you write your first offer.
Getting in for less
If a city on this list is where you want to be, look at townhomes, homes that need cosmetic work, or the edges of the city limits. A home with an assumable loan can also bring a much lower interest rate than today's market.
Common questions
What is the most expensive place to buy a home near Atlanta?
The city at the top of the list above, based on today's active listings. It's recomputed daily, so the order shifts as homes sell.
Why are some suburbs more expensive than Atlanta itself?
Atlanta's median blends condos and smaller intown homes with large estates. Many suburbs have mostly newer detached homes on bigger lots, which pushes their median above the city's.
Will I need a jumbo loan?
Only if your loan amount is above the conforming limit, which is set each year by federal regulators. Your lender can tell you the current figure and how it affects your down payment.
Are property taxes higher in expensive cities?
The tax bill rises with the assessed value, and millage rates differ by county and city, so the dollar amount is usually higher. Check the specific home's tax history on its listing page.
